In January we have not one, but two Friday Night services with a theme of Tikkun Olam (social action, making the world better). On Friday, January 9, at the 7:30 p.m. service, guest speaker Lucy Parks, member of the Board of the Butte Humane Society, will speak about the work of the society and exciting new developments that are planned. She will share how supporting animals also supports people in need. On Friday, January 16, in honor of Martin Luther King Weekend, Rabbi Danan will address Civil Rights Issues at the 7:30pm service. The Rabbi will speak about, "American Civil Rights Turmoil, a Torah Perspective." Half a century after the Civil Right movement, America is in a crisis over unequal treatment of minorities by police, while issues like mass incarceration are gaining attention. What is the Torah's perspective, and how are Jewish groups responding to these issues?
