The Gert Lenner Fund is one of several specific funds to which CBI members and non-members can donate money. Other specific funds are the General Fund, Building Fund, Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund, Religious School Fund, and others.
The Gert Lenner Fund gives scholarships or camperships to help CBI students attend Jewish summer camps or to pay for student visits to Israel. Gert Lenner was the mother of long-time CBI members Isabel and Matthew Fine. Applicants for camperships must be members in good standing (pledge paid in full by May 15). Students must attend CBI's Shul School or Confirmation class.
Summer camp tuition is expensive, and many families cannot afford camp without the camperships.
Grants are typically several hundred dollars per student each year and are usually awarded at the beginning of summer at the time summer camp tuition is payable. One popular summer camp that many CBI students have attended in recent years is Camp Tawonga near Yosemite, but students can attend other Jewish summer camps.
To help raise money for the Gert Lenner Fund, students and parents hold a car wash fundraiser each year (typically in the spring). In addition to donating car wash proceeds to the Gert Lenner Fund, the car wash teaches students that they are working to give back in appreciation of their camperships.
If interested in applying for a camp scholarship or donating to the Gert Lenner Fund, please contact CBI.
